(P/10")(PS/SH) Also known as Indian Paint, juice from the fleshy root of this early spring flowering plant was once used by the American Indians as stain for the body and clothing. Bloodroot also has powerful medicinal uses as an expectorant, emetic, emmenagogue, cathartic and cardio-active, however, large doses can be poisonous. The plant has seven inch palmate leaves each having five to nine lobes that unfurl after its small white flowers appear.
