Star Hop Rhizome

Star is a rare old Belgian variety of hops not to be confused with Southern Hops that originates from South Africa. It is no longer grown commercially because of its poor yield but it definitely has a purpose in the home brewing industry. It’s high humulene content supports its noble hop or pleasant continental-type aroma. Released by the USDA in the late 1970’s or early 80’s from stock received from Yugoslavia in 1979. Star is used as a late-finishing hop to add spicy flavors of herbs like basil, coriander and cloves to final brewing. Very good dry storage stability.

Used to brew: Belgian and Bohemian style beers.
