Fireweed Seeds
Chamerion angustifolium
Fireweed is an important bee plant. The showy flowers of this tall perennial are a rose to purple color and produce a fluff of silky hairs when mature that have the appearance of smoke or frost. Fireweed is common throughout the U.S. found on logged timberland, roadsides, and other areas that have been disturbed. Beekeepers move their hives to areas with fireweed in summer for honey production.
