Hot & Spicy Oregano Seeds
Origanum hirtum 'Hot & Spicy'
This is one of our favorite oregano cultivars! The piquant spice of the fresh leaves make it a perfect finishing herb when used fresh on pizza, hummus, or bean salads. Enjoy all summer and prune back for an attractive ground cover during winter.
Leaves are lightly wooly, medium green and very small light pink flowers form in bunches on stems beginning in mid-June. Bees and butterflies love it! A little more upright that Greek Oregano.
Harvest foliage to dry just before the plant sets flowers by cutting down stems to the base, leaving a few leaf sets for new growth. Strip lower sections of stems of leaves and bundle with a rubber band. Allow to hang upside down in a cool, dark place until completely dry, or dehydrate on low temperature. Remove from stalks and store until use.
Note: Oregano grown from seed can vary in flavor and aroma, discard inferior plants.
Open pollinated.
