Spalt Select Certified Organic Rooted Hops Rhizome

Included in the class of noble varieties of hops because of its low co-humulone content, Spalt Select was bred to be similar to Tettnanger, Spalt and Saaz in aroma and flavor. Crossed between Spalter and Hallertauer Mittelfrühner at the Hop Research Center in Hüll, Bavaria and released in 1993, it retains the spicy, grassy aroma of both with some tones of berries and citrus. Anheuser Busch imported it to the US to replace Spalter and Tettanager.

Used to brew: Lagers, Pilsners and German-Style beers. Kölsch, Belgian and French Ales.

Diseases: Resistant to downy mildew and verticillium mildew. Moderately resistant to powdery mildew.

  • Cohumulone 22% – 24%
  • Myrcene 56%

About Rooted Rhizomes:

Certified Organic Rooted Rhizomes are two-year hop plants organically grown without the use of pesticides, fungicides or herbicides. They have produced crowns full of buds ready to produce healthy bines plus vigorous root systems. The standard rhizome cutting is the typical way to start a new hops plant but it doesn't have a crown and a root system, that is created the second year. These Organically Grown Rooted Rhizomes give you a great head start towards harvesting that crop of hop cones you'll be looking forward to.

Note: hops are shipped beginning in March after they are harvested. Order now for the best selection.
