Sunbeam is a beautiful hop variety with lemon-yellow leaves that is best grown in partial shade. Too much direct, hot sun will tend to brown the edges of the leaves. It originated in 1990 at the USDA Hops Research Farm in Corvallis Oregon. Dr. Al Haunold discovered a seedling from an open pollinated Saazer 38 hop that had golden leaves and redddish-brown stems making a very nice contrast for ornamental uses. According to the USDA Sunbeam is moderately resistant to downy mildew and verticillium wilt. The vigorous vine matures early with good yield. Alpha 4-5%
